Not a problem for me as the armies are built to 4-base unit size for everything because of AMW.

As I said in the blog there were some things I never playtested during Armati II development and even then the hard core wanted LI/LHI as they were. I always reckoned that LHI. at least, should be core units, as should LC (eg Numidians) in some armies.Trebianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02221916804339000102noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7615782020735321095.post-33039945064527954062014-07-25T19:34:20.082+01:002014-07-25T19:34:20.082+01:002 sections wide. It is just because some of the influential citizens in Armati town had bought Thracian or e.g. Sub Roman British (both of which rely on the cheesy narrow unit scam to win*) that the 2 section wide change was blocked. Basically, call it 'intro' (as I do) where all the units are the same unitary width and (for 20/28mm) make that width 120mm (no narrow units and you need to be PH to resist cavalry impetus - much better game by far) ...

Will never liked it though as he built his Roman army and tactic around narrow non-key LHI ... ;)

*and are too weak without it (so although the blocking of change was purely selfish rather than idealistic, it was understandable - well to others, not to me, as blocking change killed the game) SoA Shows Northhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14181076390844159417noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7615782020735321095.post-2359768858346598902014-07-25T08:32:24.663+01:002014-07-25T08:32:24.663+01:00I hadn't realised how deadly they were against...I hadn't realised how deadly they were against elephants, otherwise they weren't a problem in this game.

I'm pondering making them deploy 2 sections wide, or allowing units fighting single section units to inflict a hit on more than one.

I forgive Will. He's lost so many times recently he deserves a consolation victory.Trebianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02221916804339000102noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7615782020735321095.post-11611925491505920682014-07-24T20:26:21.533+01:002014-07-24T20:26:21.533+01:00single section LI break the game IMO in the Roman/...single section LI break the game IMO in the Roman/Macedonian period (and destroyed it as a game offered e.g. at Britcon): everybody agreed the game was broken but the authors would not sanction any corrections (exit many core players) ...

Fixing it is simple enough but I now avoid Armati unless moderated by scenario match ups or special rules.

Shame on Will for taking Macedonians against less experienced players (you got 2 key units which is quite a kicking given the handicap) ...SoA Shows Northhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14181076390844159417noreply@blogger.com
