I'm away at the moment for a Sharp Practice tournament but I'd be happy to scan and email the relevant pages if that helps? Perhaps I should have a look in the local library.

Since doing the game I've had another look at the single source as well as Sabin & Duncan Head's book and my view of the battle is evolving.Trebianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02221916804339000102noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7615782020735321095.post-52673643407281518192017-05-05T19:37:46.086+01:002017-05-05T19:37:46.086+01:00There's a good interpretation of the battle (a...There's a good interpretation of the battle (and the campaign itself) in this book https://www.amazon.co.uk/Legacy-Alexander-Politics-Propaganda-Successors/dp/0199285152/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1494009221&sr=1-3. I was tempted to recreate the campaign after reading the account but never quite got around to it (but I will one day).

Cheers
RichardRichard Naylorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09411439028149060147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7615782020735321095.post-10159445259650824962017-05-03T10:17:57.799+01:002017-05-03T10:17:57.799+01:00Glad to hear you enjoyed the game with all the ini...Glad to hear you enjoyed the game with all the initial too-iungs and fro-ings with the rules.

I think you were absolutely correct ot lead with the left and try to pull Phil out wide. I think the mistake, if there was one, was not to persist and get round the flank. In that respect the initiative roll might not have been your friend.

I think you have to do what you can to preserve the cavalry on the right as a strike force as long as possible. The problem out there is the elephants. I agree it is hard if you don't have a lot of light infantry to oppose them, but that's the historical deployment as far as I know it for now.

I think we might need to look at elephant strength and the number of Skirmishers & Light Infantry.

On looking at the rules again it might be the case that if Elephants count as Mounted (which they do at some times) then units with pike deny them impetus. If that's the case it makes the centre more interesting.Trebianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02221916804339000102noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7615782020735321095.post-65736297096289112352017-05-02T22:34:00.884+01:002017-05-02T22:34:00.884+01:00A fun game to break my duck after nearly 3 month&#...A fun game to break my duck after nearly 3 month's absence. It helped that I knew nothing about the enemy or the previous Shedquarters battle. I hindsight, we should have gone with the classic historicaladvance the right of the line and refuse the left, but we had those light cavalry and an open flank.....too tempting for me!

I think that with elephants as lethal as they are, for game balance it may be worth considering if it is a good idea to give the side with least Panzers the fewest tank hunters to counter the enemy's surplus. I can't comment on the non historical outcome, but it felt historical and looked superb, a good game in summary.

Regards, Chris.Chris Kemphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15784847480097649252noreply@blogger.com
