Assyrians Assemble!

Okay, getting enough finished stuff to make it look like I might have an army.

The chariots. Managed to carve out unsightly blob of plastic between the arms on left hand vehicle

All set up and raring to go. Just about.
I've now painted one of every troop type in the boxes, I think, although there are more variations to be had with different shield types. I set my sights on churning out more chariots for the next stage, before reverting to the heavy infantry.

      It is pretty much perfect. It has infantry with funny shaped shields, chariots AND cavalry. You can even get allies on camels. Shame there's no way of working elephants into it.

    That is a great start to your Assyrian army. It is always rewarding to deploy them on the table for a group photo.

      Yes, I agree. That's what I like most about painting toy soldiers, - finishing them.

      Putting them out together is also important to ensure you're keeping a consistent look to the army.

    An extraordinarily pretty army - those round shields are amazing. I know nothing about Ancients gaming, alas, so it's very exciting to see one on the table top.

      It is a nice looking army. The big round shields look great, and as they used geometric patterns I can paint them.

      Those Greek ones with pictures on beat me hollow!

    I too am just about finished with an Assyrian army (just about the same size as yours, and using Hat figures as well). Any chance you can make it out to California so we can do battle? :-)

      I think that's quite unlikely! If you are ever in Northamptonshire you are most welcome to bring your boys over for a game, however.

      Never been sure about the best way to carry figures on a plane, - hand luggage or hold?

      Good question! As I'm just starting to get involved with this hobby, I have no idea. I am starting to get a good idea of how few people are interested in Assyrian figures though, or just historical wargaming in general. Would love to bring my Assyrians for a game if I swing by Northamptonshire. :D

      Always good to hear from a new starter.

      Why wouldn't you want to come to Northamptonshire if you live in California. We beat you on weather, scenery and our beautiful golden beaches.

      Or I may be thinking of somewhere else.
