Due to the excessive number of spam comments received over the last week I have turned comment moderation on.
Hopefully this won't deter any real people out there, just the robots.

Trebian,
ReplyDeleteMy blog has also suffered from this problem of late, and I wonder what the spammers 'get' out of spamming. Its just a waste of their time and ours, and doesn't enhance anyone's life, even their own!
All the best,
Bob
The last straw was a number of comments on the blogs about my parents dying. Made me very cross.
DeleteWhat is annoying is that they're all from one source "Blogger" and you can't block it.
Trebian,
DeleteThat sort of spamming is totally unacceptable! Unfortunately 'Blogger' seems to be quite a common source for spam, and like you I have yet to find a way to block it.
All the best,
Bob
The spam attacks seem to come in waves...very annoying!

Yes, in both comments and hits.
DeleteI have moderation set for posts that are older than a certain period (not sure how long it is, but it's a preset somewhere). Most of my spam seems to hit older posts, so it works fairly well.
ReplyDeleteAh. A helpful tip. I may investigate that.
DeleteI have not had a SPAM comment but then I am not as famous as you! Perhaps since I allow comments only from Registered Users, that cuts down on SPAM?
ReplyDeleteFamous?? Well, perhaps. I thought my settings were for registered users. ese spammer chaps are damn ingenious. However, moderation has scared them off completely. No comments coming through to be checked from Mr Blogger, and the number of hits n the blog has dropped a it too.
