Anton Derbilov died last Thursday. I didn't realise I knew who he was until he died. I knew of his work, but didn't know his name. He was a musician, artist and sculptor. His work has often featured on this blog, as he's the sculptor behind the Strelets WSS range, and also Redbox's Jacobites. He has also sculpted for other manufacturers and in other scales, but the majority of his work was in 1/72, producing masters for soft plastic figures. Given the constraints that arise from the injection moulding process, he was a genius.
As a musician he played the ukulele in a band called "Alcohol Ukulele".
The reports say he was killed by a mortar bomb, whilst serving with the 5th Slobozhanska Brigade of the Ukrainian National Guard in battles around the village of Kremina, in Luhansk Oblast.
He leaves a wife and three daughters.
Heroiam slava!
