I've been working on "From Pike to Bayonet" for the last couple of weeks. The text is about 1/3rd done for the main rules. This means I've done the unit sizes/formations (except for some work on "Open Order" infantry), turn sequence, command and movement. I'm working on making the firing rules clearer now and deciding on the final balance of factors. Then I have to write up Charging/Hand to Hand and decide what is going in the scenarios section. That should be a couple of months maximum, so my guess is they'll be done for May/June. I have a trip abroad booked in the first quarter this year, and I also need to write up a talk for the battlefields society that I am giving in April, so that's why it'll be more like June than March. In any event I hope they'll be done for COW in July so I can run a session.
What all this means is that I'm sufficiently confident to do the cover design. I wasn't really sure how to describe them as they are the most generic set I've written. They can be used for the Marlburian campaigns, Eugene's campaigns in North Italy against the French and in Eastern Europe against the Ottomans. They should also do for King Billy's campaigns in the back end of the 17th century, including the Boyne - although not the Jacobite campaigns in Scotland & England. Those are covered by "Tricorn and Bonnet".
Looks rather nice! I'm very slowly working on WSS armies at present (Imperialists pretty much done). Went down the bally big units track - not sure that was a good idea. I'd certainly be interested in giving FP2B a look! I have a friend (Painting Little Soldiers blog) also working on a WSS army.

The rules work on squares. Infantry units are three bases strong. Doesn't matter on size as long as they fit in the square. In practice three bases isn't essential. Units have a fighting strength of 3 - however you record it is up to you!
DeleteGreat news! Looking forward to these.
ReplyDeleteSounds like that's two copies sold. I'd better crack on with it.
DeleteMake that 3 copies, I will certainly be buying one when it's all done.
ReplyDeleteThree copies??? Riches untold!!!
